Use current and historical information to do the genogram. See the linked videos on the family pedigree resource module along with your textbook for references. You are not to focus on the family of origin of your spouse or significant other. If there is information that you are unable to obtain or uncomfortable with disclosing, note this in the paper & the significance of this lack of information as it pertains to your family system/function. The areas to be addressed include:
The Genogram includes:
Three generation Genogram/Pedigree of your family (you, your parents & their siblings, and your grandparents). Use the symbols and include a key as in the Kaakinen et al. text. Chapter 5, Figure 5-3 (p. 129).
Significant non-family members that have played major roles in your life
The family history, including names, dates of births, deaths, marriages, physical, and psychological illnesses, including addictions and trauma.
This should be an Appendix in your paper.
Key should be included to identify symbols used
Genogram of family of origin should be in the “core” circle of the ecomap.
Ecomap includes systems and support that are connected or should be connected
to the family, systems/supports must be identified by name.
Lines to describe the relationship are present for all systems/supports identified.
Lines should indicate strength of relationship by thickness.
Conflictual or strained relationships should be identified by broken lines.
Relationship direction should be identified by arrows at the end of lines.
Key should be included to identify what symbols and lines mean.
The Ecomap should be an appendix in your paper. Refer to the example of the Bono family case study in Ch 5, Figure 5-7 (p. 145) in the Kaakinen. et al. text.
Summary of your discussions/interviews with your family about your history. Refer to the example of the Bono family case study in Ch 5, Figure 5-7 (p. 145) in the Kaakinen. et al. text.
This should include:
Socio-cultural background including culture, race, immigration and religion
Socio-economic level, and occupations over the generations
Family social networks including size, accessibility, reliance, frequency of contact or stability
Family roles, relationships and interactions, including strengths, feedback loops or triangulations
Themes that emerge from your analysis, including strengths, risks, and constraints.
Identify at least 1 risk and 1 constraint or challenge. Provide specific recommendations for the future based on risk factors and constraints for each. Support recommendations using EB interventions/strategies to address family risks and challenges/constraints.
Identify an educational or supportive website that you would offer the family as a resource to address each identified risk and challenge.
References required: cite at least 4 evidence-based nursing references to support recommendations and conceptualization of family strengths and constraints. References should be from EBP that conforms to current standards and practice.
